Who We AreThe ACHMM & IHMM
The Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers (ACHMM) is a
professional membership organization for Certified Hazardous Materials Managers
(CHMMs) and other parties with interest in the environmental field. The Academy
was established in 1985 and its mission is to promote the environmental, health
and safety profession and offer professional development and networking
opportunities to the membership.
The ACHMM vision is to be the recognized leader and resource for those
practicing Environmental, Health and Safety Management.
Comprised of more than 66 Chapters and more than 6,000 members, the ACHMM is
represented in 38 States plus the District of Columbia and Guam. The ACHMM
headquarters are located in Rockville, Maryland, just outside Washington D.C.
The Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM) certifies all CHMMs.
While the ACHMM and IHMM are separate organizations with different roles and
responsibilities, they work together they make the CHMM Program the premier
certification in the environmental services industry. For more information
regarding the IHMM, click here.
If you become certified and choose to join the ACHMM, the organization
assists you in maintaining your certification. Membership services and
activities are available at both the National and Chapter levels. Nationally,
the ACHMM organization consists of a President, Vice-President, Secretary,
Treasurer, Immediate Past President, and six Directors. National Committees
composed of members-at-large make recommendations to the Academy Officers and
Board of Directors. There are more than a dozen committees and task forces,
focusing on the general areas of Administration, Outreach, and Education.
The Three Rivers Chapter
The Three Rivers Chapter of the ACHMM (TRC-ACHMM) is just one of the many
ACHMM chapters located around the country. In Pennsylvania, there are 3 ACHMM
chapters including the TRC-ACHMM, the Laurel Highlands Chapter, and the PA
Capital District Chapter.
Our Chapter is comprised of environmental professionals who work in a variety
of fields dealing with hazardous materials and environmental health and safety
issues. There are over 100 CHMMs in the greater Pittsburgh / Western PA region
and we have members working in industry, academia, government, real estate,
banking, and consulting.
CHMMs and non-CHMMs are welcome to be members in the Chapter. You do not need
