Presentation Title: Environmental, Health, and Safety Professionals in Operation Iraqi Freedom: CHMMs Supporting the Global War on Terrorism

Speaker: Our presenter will be Lieutenant Commander Donald D. Elswick, CET, CHMM who is an Industrial Hygiene/Environmental Health Officer in the United States Naval Reserve. Don's military service encompasses twenty-two years, six of which he served on active duty. His most recent assignment was the Preventative Medicine/Environmental Health Officer with 4th Civil Affairs Group (CAG), Detachment #2 in Al Asad, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom II.

Don is currently employed as an Environmental, Health and Safety professional by Bayer CropScience in Institute, WV. Don offers some rare insight into the challenges that Environmental, Health, and Safety professionals face in the Global War on Terriorism during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Discussion Topic:

  • Civil Affairs activities focused on Industrial Support Operations in Iraq, Hazardous Material Identification equipment used for force protection, and Occupational Health Industrial Facility Support Operations
  • Forward Deployable Preventative Medicine Units (FDPMU) and Hazardous Material functions within the FDPMU units
  • Response to unknown chemicals and training for Deployed Armed Forces Members
  • Questions and Answers
