The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals ("GHS") was approved by the United Nations in 2002 and set an international goal of implementation by as many countries as possible by 2008. OSHA and other Federal agencies have a long history of involvement in the development of this system and have publicly stated their commitment to implementing many of the core principles of the system as soon as possible. In order to do so, OSHA will need to modify its current Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) and a comment period from an Advanced Notice of Public Rulemaking published in the all of 2006 recently ended. A draft of the revision is on the Regulatory Agenda for the current fiscal year.

This presentation will provide attendees with basic information about GHS including what it is, what it isn't, what modifications will need to be made to HCS, and a general idea of the timing of OSHA's possible changes. In addition, some suggested strategies will be reviewed that will enable EH&S companies to be proactive and prepared

Hors D'oeurves or a light meal will be offered. The fee for registration will be $15 for members and $20 for non-members.
