Summer Membership Presentation - ENVIRONMENTAL & CARBON DISCLOSURE
Date of Event: 06/08/2010
Time of Event: 5:30 pm - 08:00 pm.

To: All CHMMs, EHS&S Professionals, and Other Interested Parties:

The TRC-ACHMM would like to extend an invitation for you to join us for a presentation from Dr. John Fillo.

Presentation Abstract: The veracity of corporate environmental disclosure continues to receive much attention and debate, and recently even more so due to the proliferation of voluntary initiatives and mandatory requirements around greenhouse gas emissions reporting and climate change risk. The US and Canada have in place environmental disclosure requirements, the underpinnings of which provide a framework for disclosure of ‘material’ risks related to climate change and carbon risk management. However, the resulting disclosures are by no means consistent between companies, in part due to an enterprise’s view of what constitutes ‘material’ risk, with shareholders and other stakeholders calling for increased transparency and disclosure.

Environmental disclosure requirements that exist under the Securities Exchange Commission, as well as Canadian provincial and national requirements and developing international standards, provide a framework through which to assess carbon management and risk, and disclose this to the public. And with SEC recently issuing interpretive guidance regarding climate change disclosure, the landscape can be expected to change. Such disclosure can include potential business impacts from existing and developing regulations in the US and abroad, physical impacts and business consequences. Environmental professionals can be expected to have a seminal role in ensuring effective carbon management and disclosure into the future, working as part of regulated enterprises or as their consultants, or as independent third parties to ensure the efficacy of carbon risk reporting, transactions and disclosure.

When: Tuesday, June 8th, 5:30 p.m.
