Household Hazardous Waste – Every homeowner and community has it, but how do you get rid of it??
Our speaker will be Dave Mazza of the Southwestern PA HHW Task Force
Program Description:
Did you know: Each person in Pennsylvania produces an average of four pounds of HHW each year for a total of about 25,000 tons/yr. statewide? Collection and disposal of these materials is a BIG effort, with well over 1 million pounds of HHW collected since April 2003!
Topics Covered:
a) What the HHW collection days and operation is all about, including where, when, how, and how much;
b) How people can participate; How groups or communities can participate;
c) What happens to the waste (methods of recycling and disposal);
d) Technical aspects regarding health and safety, materials combining, container labeling, transportation, manifesting, waste disposal; and
e) What are common things to look for around your own home to make it safer for children.
Mr. Mazza will also present a slide show of photos from different events around the county to show.

Fee:
The fee for registration will be $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Hors D'oeurves or a light meal will be offered; cash bar.
